For nearly a decade, Patrick A. Horton, PhD has been best known quite simply as "The Story Coach," consistently providing some of the media industry's most innovative and radically empowering presentations, workshops, and seminars on story and story development / promotion. He similarly has provided equally innovative and radically empowering private consultations and writing for hire, and has brought the power of story, media, and social change to other arenas, including the worlds of business, academia, and professional speaking. Unlike most approaches to teaching and/or creating story that treat it as an isolated phenomenon of static principles and lifeless mechanics, Dr. Horton presents story as a dynamic and decidedly living thing, best learned by experience and by doing. Rather than show people how to analyze other people’s work or solely discuss the analytics of story, he walks participants through the real and generally neglected steps of divining and expressing their own material in their own voice, giving birth to stories from the bottom up and breathing life into characters from the inside out. Then he shows how to promote and sell it. Rather than treat story as something for writers only, he deftly approaches the exploration and creation of story in the context of the very real industry in which it lives and the collaborative creative and commercial processes it makes possible. Just as importantly for all involved, he brings into intuitive but powerful and practical relief the inseparable unfolding relationships between the story in life and the life in story. Dr. Horton recently decided to put the time he was devoting to other people's projects back into his own work as screenwriter, producer, and social / media advocate under the expanded endeavors of Wind & Thunder Productions. This shift allows for the creation of viable media projects in their own right while also expanding efforts at both stimulating and executing social and media advocacy by promoting resource development and strategies for integrating story, media, and social change. However, in the continued shared commitment to bringing the best tools and opportunities for success to those who wish to work in and/or influence the media industry, ongoing brief presentations and full day / weekend seminars will be provided on an ongoing basis for little to no charge in association with long time collaborators, Write Brothers Inc. and select media organizations & guilds, academic programs, and institutions for social entrepreneurship and applied social change. | Be sure to sign up for the Write Brothers Screenplay Scoop newsletter to receive notification of upcoming events.
